Rental fraud is a significant problem in Canada. SafeRent Canada's verification system is designed to ensure every landlord, tenant, and verifier is who they claim to be, and that every property listing represents a real, available property.
All users who wish to access full platform features — including listing creation, direct messaging, and proxy viewing — must complete identity verification.
Verification documents are stored in an encrypted, private storage bucket. They are not shared with other users and are deleted upon account deletion. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
A verified listing indicates that a landlord has provided proof of ownership or authorization to rent the property, and our team has confirmed the listing is authentic.
Proxy verifiers must complete enhanced identity verification and a background check (where required by provincial law) before they can accept proxy viewing requests. Verifiers agree to conduct professional, unbiased property tours.
Verification status can be revoked at any time if a user is found to have submitted false documents, engaged in fraudulent activity, or violated our Terms of Service. Revoked accounts may be permanently suspended.
