Use traceable payment methods (bank transfers, certified cheque) and get receipts.
Sign a written lease agreement before handing over any money.
Verify the landlord's identity matches their SafeRent Canada profile.
Trust your instincts — if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Never send e-transfers, wire transfers, gift cards, or cash to someone you haven't verified.
Never share your SIN, banking details, or passwords with a landlord or verifier.
Never pay a deposit before viewing the property (in person or via proxy).
Never respond to listings that ask you to contact them outside the platform.
Never trust landlords who claim to be abroad and can't show the property.
Never sign a lease without reading it fully — seek legal advice if unsure.
