Getting Started

How do I create an account?

Click 'Get Started' on the homepage and fill in your name, email, and password. Choose your role (Tenant, Landlord, or Verifier) and verify your email address.

What roles are available?

We support three roles: Tenant (find and rent properties), Landlord (list and manage properties), and Verifier (conduct proxy video viewings for tenants).

How do I verify my identity?

Go to your Profile page and upload a government-issued ID (passport, driver's licence). Our team reviews submissions within 1–2 business days.

Finding a Rental

How do I search for listings?

Use the search bar on the homepage (enter city/province and max rent) or browse all listings at /listings. You can filter by price, number of bedrooms, and sort results.

What does 'Verified' mean on a listing?

Verified listings have been checked by our team for authenticity — the landlord has proven ownership of the property, reducing scam risk.

How do I save listings?

Click the heart icon on any listing card or detail page to save it to your favourites. View your saved listings from your dashboard.

Messaging

How do I contact a landlord?

Open any listing and click 'Contact Landlord'. You can send a message directly from the listing page. All messages appear in your Messages tab.

Can I send files or photos?

Yes. In any chat, click the attachment icon to upload images, documents, or videos (up to 10 MB per file).

Proxy Viewing

What is proxy viewing?

Proxy viewing lets you hire a verified local verifier to visit a property and conduct a live video tour on your behalf — perfect if you're relocating or can't visit in person.

How much does proxy viewing cost?

Proxy viewing costs $30 CAD per session. Payment processing will be available soon.

How do I request a proxy viewing?

On any listing detail page, click 'Request Proxy Viewing', choose a preferred date and time, and submit. A verified verifier will be matched to your request.

Safety & Scam Prevention

How does SafeRent prevent scams?

All landlords and tenants undergo identity verification. Listings are authenticated for ownership. Our admin team reviews reports and removes fraudulent content promptly.

What should I do if I suspect a scam?

Click 'Report Issue' in the footer or email safety@saferentcanada.ca immediately. Do not send money or personal documents outside our platform.

Is it safe to pay rent through SafeRent?

We currently don't process rent payments — always use a legal, traceable payment method. Never send e-transfers or cash to someone you haven't verified in person.
